What we actually do
Block management is a local business. The buildings we manage sit in communities we work in every week, and most of the contractors who service them are small local firms. What follows is what we do, rather than a statement of values.
Board and trustee roles
Joshua Prince, who founded the firm, sits on the board of J-Living, a housing association providing sheltered accommodation for older people. He is also a non-executive board member and charity trustee at Forward Housing, part of the Thera Trust, and at JBD — both of which support adults with disabilities. Housing and care are the same problem seen from different angles, and the work informs how we think about the people living in the buildings we manage.
Fundraising
Since 2023 the team has raised money for Shelter through community collections. Staff also fundraise through sporting and fitness challenges for the Children’s Cancer Fund, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Shelter.
Local contractors
Where a job can be done by a local firm, we use one. It gives better response times, it keeps money in the area around the building rather than routing it through a national supply chain, and it means a contractor can be held to account in person.
How we hire
We recruit into block management from adjacent trades and from people changing career, not only from other agents. The sector has a shortage of qualified managers and a habit of moving the same people between firms, which does nothing to grow the profession.
Buildings as places people live
The measurable part of this work is compliance and money. The part residents actually notice is whether the lighting works, whether the bins are collected, and whether anyone answers the phone. We treat those as the job rather than as extras.
